Even as more people trust their most sensitive personal information to online apps and services, databases are routinely exposed. In 2017 alone, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.malwarebytes.com\/cybercrime\/2017\/12\/the-seven-most-colossal-data-breaches-of-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">we learned about massive data breaches<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> from major organizations like Equifax, Uber, and Verizon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In other words: We\u2019re in the midst of a data breach epidemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How bad is it? To help better understand the leaky state of data, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.truthfinder.com\/dark-web\/hacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TruthFinder created this infographic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> based on data from the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/idtheftcenter.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Identity Theft Center<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. In 2005, there were 157 publicly-reported data breaches of sensitive information. By 2017, that number increased tenfold to 1,579 data breaches. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The severity of breaches is increasing, too. The first breach that leaked over 1 million credit card numbers occurred in 2005, but now we hear about breaches that expose tens or hundreds of millions of records every few months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Check out TruthFinder&#8217;s infographic below.
