The highly anticipated version 1803, Redstone 4 \u2014 which many of us have been testing for weeks \u2014 looked ready to go \u2026 until it wasn\u2019t.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rumors are flying but, as of this writing, the actual cause for the delay isn\u2019t public. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Microsoft, of course, has never committed to a release date. Or a build number. Or even a hokey \u201cSpring after Fall Creators Update\u201d style name, for that matter. (I\u2019m still plugging for \u201cTerry Myerson Swansong version\u201d but doubt it\u2019ll gain traction.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead of a new version, all we got was a little patch, KB 4100375, that raised the build number from 17133.1 (which was released to the Fast ring on March 27) to 17133.73. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.windows.com\/windowsexperience\/2018\/03\/27\/announcing-windows-10-insider-preview-build-17133-for-fast\/#YFIpmmvIj19Z8xoD.97\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">official blog post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, co-authored by Dona Sarkar and Brandon LeBlanc, says:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UPDATE 4\/10: We have released KB4100375 (OS Build 17133.73) to Windows Insiders running Build 17133 in the Fast, Slow, and Release Preview rings. This update includes the following quality improvements (no new OS features):<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Which seems suitably generic, but it leaves a lot of wiggle room \u2014 and absolutely no explanation for the delay. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The download is coyly labeled \u201cCumulative Update for Windows 10 Version Next.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zac Bowden, reporting on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.windowscentral.com\/microsoft-holds-releasing-windows-10-version-1803-public\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Windows Central<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, attributes the delay to a \u201cblocking bug\u201d \u2014 which, in normal English, just means \u201ca bug so bad that Microsoft figured they better stop the rollout\u201d:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to my sources, over the weekend Microsoft found a blocking bug that, while apparently rather rare, is impactful enough to hold the release until the issue is fixed. \u2026 \u00a0Thanks to feedback from Insiders in the Fast, Slow, and Release Preview rings, this bug was caught before rollout began.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Which is rather remarkable, because \u201cWindows Insider\u201d beta testers have had 17133.1 for two weeks \u2014 Fast ring got it on March 27, Slow ring on March 30, and Preview ring on April 10. Hard to understand how it could take two weeks to discover a bad bug.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bowden goes on to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/zacbowden\/status\/983833624259768322?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.windowscentral.com%2Fmicrosoft-holds-releasing-windows-10-version-1803-public&amp;tfw_site=windowscentral\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tweet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not sure if bug was fixed in 17133.73 or if it&#8217;ll come in another patch. RS4 will likely begin rollout in a couple weeks now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Microsoft, of course, is mum. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My guess \u2014 and it\u2019s only a guess \u2014 is that Microsoft found some conflict with this month\u2019s Patch Tuesday crop that blew two weeks of Fast ring testing out of the water.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Got a better guess?
