The event has been compared to the Y2K problem in the west. It\u2019s not clear why two patches were released on Nov. 6 to accommodate that calendar change, but both KB articles now sport the admonition:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After you install this update, you may experience crashes in Microsoft Access or other applications. To resolve this issue, uninstall the update by following the instructions in the &#8220;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/2863821\/november-6-2018-update-for-office-2010-kb2863821#uninstall\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More information<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8221; section.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This update is no longer available.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Windows observers <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WZorNET\/status\/1062744392866369536\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WZorNET claim<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the problem is more widespread:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please note that this update <\/span><strong>KB 4461522<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> causes an error (Entry Point Not Found: The procedure entry point GetDateFormatEx could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll) when you run Office 2010 &#8211; 32-Bit, Word, Excel, and others when working with Windows XP.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accordingly, those patches have been pulled from the Microsoft Update Catalog. There\u2019s no indication when they\u2019ll be back. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also on Friday, Microsoft officially confirmed that the November Outlook 2010 security patch, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/4461529\/description-of-the-security-update-for-outlook-2010-november-13-2018\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">KB 4461529<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, causes the 64-bit version of Outlook 2010 to crash or freeze on startup. It\u2019s a problem we\u2019ve <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.askwoody.com\/forums\/topic\/patch-tuesday-problems-include-even-more-reported-bugs-with-win10-version-1809\/#post-233082\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">known about since Wednesday<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the day after the patch was released. The KB article has been modified to say:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After \u00a0you install the 64-bit version of this security update, Outlook may crash on start-up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/outlook-2010-crashes-on-startup-after-installing-november-public-update-kb-4461529-8236c141-450d-45bf-861b-07dec3f4dcb9?ui=en-US&amp;rs=en-US&amp;ad=US\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">separate advisory<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> states:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After updating Outlook 2010 to the November 2018 Public Update KB 4461529 Outlook crashes or closes suddenly on start up. The patch covers four separate security holes in Outlook 2010, identified as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/portal.msrc.microsoft.com\/en-US\/security-guidance\/advisory\/CVE-2018-8522\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CVE-2018-8522<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/portal.msrc.microsoft.com\/en-US\/security-guidance\/advisory\/CVE-2018-8524\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-8524<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/portal.msrc.microsoft.com\/en-US\/security-guidance\/advisory\/CVE-2018-8576\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-8576 <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/portal.msrc.microsoft.com\/en-US\/security-guidance\/advisory\/CVE-2018-8582\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-8582<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. All four of those security weaknesses are rated \u201cImportant\u201d (which means they aren\u2019t) and have no known exploits or public disclosures. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Microsoft figures out a way to fix the fix, you\u2019re instructed to use a product that doesn\u2019t look or act one whole heckuvalot like Outlook 2010.
