{"id":16305,"date":"2019-09-12T11:00:18","date_gmt":"2019-09-12T19:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.palada.net\/index.php\/2019\/09\/12\/news-10047\/"},"modified":"2019-09-12T11:00:18","modified_gmt":"2019-09-12T19:00:18","slug":"news-10047","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.palada.net\/index.php\/2019\/09\/12\/news-10047\/","title":{"rendered":"GAME CHANGING TECH! \u2013 Arc Flash Energy Reduction for Safety and Resiliency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Credit to Author: Jeff M Miller, PE| Date: Thu, 12 Sep 2019 18:00:25 +0000<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong><em style=\"font-size: 16px\">&#8220;Once in a while an innovative technology will catch my eye as an industry GAME CHANGER! <\/em><em style=\"font-size: 16px\">Like when I<\/em><em style=\"font-size: 16px\">\u00a0first learned about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.schneider-electric.us\/en\/work\/products\/explore\/arcblok\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ArcBlok<sup>TM<\/sup><\/a> for low voltage motor control centers (MCCs).&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In the past 2 decades <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.se.com\/electrical-safety\/2018\/07\/23\/how-to-conduct-a-successful-arc-flash-risk-assessment-and-hazard-analysis\/\">awareness of arc fault hazards<\/a> necessitated <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.se.com\/services\/2019\/05\/17\/decoded-arc-flash-in-the-national-electric-code\/\">evolving codes and standards<\/a> to protect personnel. Since then, many <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.se.com\/electrical-safety\/2018\/07\/25\/the-dangers-of-arc-flash-and-how-to-protect-against-them\/\">solutions<\/a> have arisen to protect personnel and critical assets. Each of these <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.se.com\/electrical-safety\/2018\/07\/25\/the-dangers-of-arc-flash-and-how-to-protect-against-them\/\">solutions<\/a> (e.g. policies, procedures, maintenance setting switches, arc flash relays, PPE, arc resistant gear, etc.) have up and downsides. The largest hazard produced from an MCC lineup would be from a line side incident before the main circuit breaker.
