All\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">the lessons learned are those that<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0I still apply\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">in my everyday<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">leadership <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">approach<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">in<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">my role as VP of Talent Acquisition for\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.schneider-electric.us\/en\/about-us\/careers\/overview.jsp\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Schneider Electric<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">So,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0in no\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">particular order<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, here goes\u2026<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:191,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-61058 alignright\" style=\"font-weight: bold\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.se.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Paris-210x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.se.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Paris-210x300.jpg 210w, https:\/\/blog.se.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Paris.jpg 587w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/> <\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">1) Encourage talents to s<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">pread\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">their<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> wings and fly&#8230; <em>abroad<br \/> <\/em><\/span><\/b>I can\u2019t underestimate the importance of supporting professional development of all levels.\u00a0 Early on in my career, I was coached to take time to perfect my craft and to work on my brand. Even if I didn\u2019t have it all figured out, I was urged to sort through what I knew I didn\u2019t want to be \u201cwhen I grew up\u201d vs what I did.<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I was too <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">early on in my career to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0see it at the time, but this coaching and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">self-exploration<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0was crucial in helping me\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">learn\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to trust my instincts.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I was encouraged to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">own my career,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">move\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">abroad<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">across the Atlantic for the first time<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0despite the fear of the unknown.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It was one of the best decisions I could have made, and I\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">learned so much personally and professionally. I\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">would not have had the courage to go for it, had I not been mentored to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0spread my wings and fly<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">2) Never <\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">hesitate to\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">t<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ake\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">c<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">hances on\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">motivated employees<\/span><\/b><br \/> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">Taking chances on\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">talent\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">pays off.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In my late 20\u2019s and the years that followed, the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">company I was working for\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">took chance<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0on me, giving me more and more responsibility,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">f<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ostering my\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ambition<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and promoting m<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">multiples times\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">quickly<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Luckily, I was able to demonstrate that the risk paid off<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">which then allowed me<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to give the same opportunities to others by making bold hiring decisions<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It was through this process that I found the passion I have\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">for\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">challenge<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, disruption<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">transformation<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8211; whether it be\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">around\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">people, process,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0culture<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0or technology.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I knew\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that I would always pay it forward and take chances on talented individuals to allow them to stretch and step up.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-61057 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.se.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Mai-Cathy-Grace-Taryn-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Leadership Team \" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.se.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Mai-Cathy-Grace-Taryn-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blog.se.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Mai-Cathy-Grace-Taryn-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.se.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Mai-Cathy-Grace-Taryn.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/> <\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">3) Listen to your <\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">team<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">give them the gift of your time<br \/> <\/span><\/b>Investing <span data-contrast=\"auto\">your\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">time in someone can be the surest way to show them they are valued<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Throughout my career I\u2019ve been blessed with some amazing role models and mentors that always\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">made time for me even in those moments when they had little time to spare.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0They saw\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">something\u2026<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a spark in me before I was ever able to see it in myself.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Time can sometimes\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">mean<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">more than a pay raise or a promotion when it comes to feeling valued and heard.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">These 1:1 conversa<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">tions and interactions<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0always bring food for thought and the learning\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">goes both ways.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Sometimes lending an ear, sharing a coffee or a laugh can change the trajectory of someone\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">day or project<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0plan<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">T<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he gift of time goes a very long way<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8211; never underestimate it<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, share it and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">always be grateful for it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">4) Engage your team and <\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">bring them<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">along for the journey<\/span><\/b><br \/> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">Great leaders use\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">both\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">their heart and their head.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Looking back\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">at the times\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">when<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0I felt most engaged, it was when I was given the opportunity to be an active driver of the change<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and wasn\u2019t left in the dark<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I follow this same principle with my teams.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Transparency and trust go a long wa<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">y.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">During any\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">large-scale<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0organizational transformation that I\u2019ve<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">led, it is always the case that it\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">takes a village to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">keep it moving and to drive it<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to completion.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The more you engage your team alongside you\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in the trenches of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the journey, the more bought in they are to the shared vision, striving together towards the finish line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">5) Empower <\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">your people and allow them to\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fail<br \/> <\/span><\/b>A truly empowered team is <em>powerful<\/em>.<span data-contrast=\"none\"> Creating an environment of trust where it is okay to fail helps to foster <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">creativity and learning.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">W<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">hen\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">the team is empowered with a leader that truly wants each team member to be successful<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">a step change occurs.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">I get the pleasure of seeing this\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">n my own team\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">every day by giving<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0them\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">a long runway to try new things and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0offer<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0a culture of trust.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">N<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">othing makes me happier than\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">watching\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">them devel<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">op and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0I\u2019m honored to be<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0a part of it.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Sometimes we try new things and they don\u2019t go our way, but we never stop trying.
