{"id":16950,"date":"2019-11-21T06:30:04","date_gmt":"2019-11-21T14:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.palada.net\/index.php\/2019\/11\/21\/news-10687\/"},"modified":"2019-11-21T06:30:04","modified_gmt":"2019-11-21T14:30:04","slug":"news-10687","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.palada.net\/index.php\/2019\/11\/21\/news-10687\/","title":{"rendered":"Throwback Thursday: See if you can wriggle out of this one"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.idgesg.net\/images\/article\/2019\/05\/cw_sharktank_3x2_2400x1600_01-100796357-large.3x2.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Credit to Author: Sharky| Date: Thu, 21 Nov 2019 06:00:00 -0800<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s several years ago during a major virus outbreak \u2014 if you know your history of computer viruses, you can narrow it down \u2014 and a user at a remote site calls this pilot fish to complain that her computer won\u2019t let her get any work done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI asked her if she had called the local technician \u2014 who worked for me \u2014 and she replied that she had called him numerous times but he had not picked up his phone,\u201d says fish. \u201cI told her I would take care of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fish calls his tech, who says he has spoken to the user each time she called and explained to her that he\u2019ll help her as soon as he can, but he\u2019s finishing work in another area.<\/p>\n<p>That satisfies fish, who goes back to his own work. And soon he gets a message from his tech, sent from the irate user\u2019s email account, reporting that the tech checked the user\u2019s PC, found a virus and removed it, and updated the PC\u2019s virus definitions. Case closed.<\/p>\n<p>But the next day, fish gets another call from the user \u2014 and she\u2019s furious. She demands that fish reprimand the tech for his abusive behavior.<\/p>\n<p>It seems she has checked the \u201csent\u201d items in her email and saw that the tech had told fish that he had \u201ctaken care of that sassy worm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But fish has that same email and knows that the wording is a bit different: \u201cProblem with PC was virus, updated virus definitions and took care of Sasser worm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Call Sharky sassy if you like, <\/strong><em>but do send me an email with your true tales of IT life at <a href=\"mailto:sharky@computerworld.com\" rel=\"nofollow\">sharky@computerworld.com<\/a>.
