It&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/life-style\/gadgets-and-tech\/news\/meitu-app-beauty-safety-privacy-download-ios-android-permissions-secure-a7536666.html\" target=\"_blank\">been found<\/a> to be harvesting all sorts of data on users, including your location, reading, changing and deleting the data in your phone&#8217;s memory, access your IMEI number (unique identifiers for phones) and more.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kaspersky.com\/files\/2017\/01\/meitu-app-permissions-featured.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.kaspersky.com\/files\/2017\/01\/meitu-app-permissions-featured-1024x672.jpg\" alt=\"Meitu \u2013 the app with all the permissions\" width=\"1024\" height=\"672\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-13891\" \/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>This is somewhat concerning considering the app makers don&#8217;t tell you what they&#8217;re doing with the data. Are they using it for advertising purposes or for something else? The chances are it&#8217;s to do with adverts (as most things seem to be these days) but as users are kept in the dark regarding the purpose, it&#8217;s tough to say.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Let me get this straight&#8230;<br \/>All of you just installed a photo app from China that requires these permissions? But it&#8217;s unwise to do so:  you should carefully check to make sure that an app isn&#8217;t asking for permissions that it doesn&#8217;t need to function.  And even if it does &#8216;need&#8217; it, don&#8217;t accept unless you&#8217;re comfortable with it accessing this function or data on your device:  if you don&#8217;t think it needs to access something, don&#8217;t allow it!&#8221;<\/em> says David Emm, a principal security researcher of Kaspersky Lab&#8217;s GReAT.<\/p>\n<p>Also remember that you can control app permissions in later versions of Android using the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/googleplay\/answer\/6270602?hl=en-GB\" target=\"_blank\">settings menu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.kaspersky.com\/meitu-permissions\/13890\/\" target=\"bwo\" >https:\/\/blog.kaspersky.com\/feed\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Why does a \u2018make-over\u2019 app require your location, private data and your phones IMEI number?
