{"id":6314,"date":"2017-01-23T15:50:18","date_gmt":"2017-01-23T23:50:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.palada.net\/index.php\/2017\/01\/23\/news-152\/"},"modified":"2017-01-23T15:50:18","modified_gmt":"2017-01-23T23:50:18","slug":"news-152","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.palada.net\/index.php\/2017\/01\/23\/news-152\/","title":{"rendered":"A brief discourse on \u2018Changing browsing experience\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><\/h1>\n<p>In response to questions we\u2019ve received from the software distribution and monetization industry, and following our <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.technet.microsoft.com\/mmpc\/2016\/03\/23\/keeping-browsing-experience-update\/\">blog<\/a> announcing our browser modifier policy update, we\u2019d like to provide some details on what we refer to in our policy as \u201cchanging browsing experience\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>For us, \u201cchanging browsing experience\u201d means behaviors that modify the content of webpages.<\/p>\n<p>We consider programs installed and running on a PC that make webpages look differently than they would on the same browser had those programs not been installed, to be programs that change browsing experience.\u00a0 These programs are required to use the browsers\u2019 extensibility models.<\/p>\n<p>Browsers\u2019 extensibility models ensure user choice and control.\u00a0 Extensible browsers present consent prompts that ensure users are asked to grant permission for an extension to be enabled.\u00a0 It is done using a consistent language and placement that is straightforward and clear.<\/p>\n<p>By requiring programs that change browsing experience to use the extensibility models, we ensure that users are kept at the helm of their choice and control.\u00a0 Programs can only make such alterations to webpages when users grant them the permission to do so, using the browsers\u2019 consistent and reliable consent prompting.<\/p>\n<p>Some programs modify browsing access in ways that don\u2019t insert or change web content.\u00a0 We don\u2019t consider these as changing the browsing experience.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of programs that modify browsing access include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>VPNs<\/strong> &#8211; software type that provides access<\/li>\n<li><strong>Parental control programs<\/strong> &#8211; software type that restricts access<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If these programs don\u2019t insert or change web content, then they are not changing browsing experiences.
