Fortunately for NASA&#8217;s Curiosity rover, which just celebrated <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceflightinsider.com\/space-flight-history\/spaceflight-heritage-curiosity-fifth-year-mars-marked-celebration-song\/\" target=\"_blank\">its fifth year on Mars<\/a>, this pastime is not unique to Earth. New footage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/news\/news.php?feature=6917\" target=\"_blank\">released on Wednesday<\/a> by NASA&#8217;s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) reveals Curiosity&#8217;s view of thin cloud cover floating high above the rover&#8217;s adopted home in Gale Crater. <\/p>\n<div style=\"max-width: 613px;\" data-iframely-id=\"2mxApK6\" class=\"article__embed article__embed--iframely\">\n<div style=\"left: 0; width: 100%; height: 0; position: relative; padding-bottom: 100%;\" data-iframely-smart-iframe=\"true\"><iframe  src= width=\"100%\" height=\"420\" frameborder=\"0\" ><\/iframe> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p> <i> GIF: <\/i><i><a href=\"https:\/\/photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov\/archive\/PIA21841_NRB_Sol01758_553537959_Zenith.gif\" target=\"_blank\">NASA\/JPL-Caltech\/York University<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p> Curiosity snapped the above sequence, compiled from still images, using one of its navigation cameras (Navcams) during the early morning hours of July 17 (local Mars time). The shots were taken over four minutes, so the motion of the clouds appears accelerated. <\/p>\n<p> Unlike Curiosity&#8217;s Mastcam, the instrument responsible for the rover&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/motherboard.vice.com\/en_us\/article\/8q8gaa\/the-curiosity-mars-rover-selfie\">colorful selfies<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/motherboard.vice.com\/en_us\/article\/d7y54j\/mars-curiosity-panorama-nasa\">landscape panoramas<\/a>, Navcams are used for wide angle black-and-white imagery that helps mission leads plot out optimal driving routes for Curiosity. They decorate the Martian welkin when the red planet gets chillier near aphelion, which is the point at which it is farthest from the Sun. <\/p>\n<div style=\"max-width: 613px;\" data-iframely-id=\"S7p0nP1\" class=\"article__embed article__embed--iframely\">\n<div style=\"left: 0; width: 100%; height: 0; position: relative; padding-bottom: 99.8043%;\" data-iframely-smart-iframe=\"true\"><iframe  src= width=\"100%\" height=\"420\" frameborder=\"0\" ><\/iframe> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p> <i> GIF: <\/i><i><a href=\"https:\/\/photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov\/archive\/PIA21841_NRB_Sol01758_553537959_Zenith.gif\" target=\"_blank\">NASA\/JPL-Caltech\/York University<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p> According to JPL, these are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/news\/news.php?feature=6917\" target=\"_blank\">the clearest images of Martian clouds<\/a> that Curiosity has ever taken.
