The only problem? That\u2019s not Hope Hicks. @HopeHicks45 was nothing more than an imposter.<!-- \/react-text --><\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"257\"><!-- react-text: 258 -->The ordeal kicked off when journalist <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jules_su\/status\/907695887274663939\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"259\"><!-- react-text: 260 -->Jules Suzdaltsev noted<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 261 --> that what appeared to be Hicks&#x27; account was not verified by the service, surprising for such a prominent public figure. Less than a day later, Twitter suspended that same account:<!-- \/react-text --><\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"263\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jules_su\/status\/907953075813576704\" data-reactid=\"264\">https:\/\/twitter.com\/jules_su\/status\/907953075813576704<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"265\"><!-- react-text: 266 -->Not long after, <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/jack-posobiec-pizzagate-and-seth-rich-conspiracy-theorist-has-top-secret-security-clearance\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"267\"><!-- react-text: 268 -->Pizzagate champion<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 269 --> and <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/morning-mix\/wp\/2017\/08\/15\/trump-retweets-right-wing-provocateur-known-for-pushing-false-conspiracy-theories\/?utm_term=.9b223b23d07e\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"270\"><!-- react-text: 271 -->Trump retweet recipient<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 272 --> Jack Posobiec started stirring up an outrage campaign. &quot;Twitter has suspended Trump&#x27;s communications director @HopeHicks45 one day after she was appointed,&quot; <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JackPosobiec\/status\/907959430729261056\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"273\"><!-- react-text: 274 -->he said in a tweet<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 275 --> over a screenshot of the suspended account. At the time of publication, Posobiec&#x27;s tweet has been retweeted over 1,500 times.<!-- \/react-text --><\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"277\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/polNewsInfinity\/status\/907940066638663680\" data-reactid=\"278\">https:\/\/twitter.com\/polNewsInfinity\/status\/907940066638663680<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"279\"><!-- react-text: 280 -->That was just the beginning, though. &quot;Alt-left targeted her account and mass-reported it. Twitter took it down,&quot; <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JackPosobiec\/status\/907959818396323840\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"281\"><!-- react-text: 282 -->he said<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 283 --> shortly after. Posobiec then <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JackPosobiec\/status\/907960776928878592\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"284\"><!-- react-text: 285 -->followed up with<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 286 -->, &quot;This is a horrific sign for our democracy when @Twitter refuses to allow our President&#x27;s own communications channel with the people.&quot; <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JackPosobiec\/status\/907961009897218048\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"287\"><!-- react-text: 288 -->As well as<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 289 -->, &quot;Twitter must issue an apology to Ms. Hicks, as well as the United States of America. Immediately.&quot;<!-- \/react-text --><\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"290\"><!-- react-text: 291 -->The Political Insider, a conservative DC-focused blog, at least <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"http:\/\/thepoliticalinsider.com\/hope-hicks-twitter-suspend\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"292\"><!-- react-text: 293 -->remained somewhat skeptical<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 294 -->: &quot;Can you believe it? Not even 24 hours after being put in charge of White House communications, a Twitter account that allegedly belongs to Hicks has been suspended. It should be noted that it\u2019s not verified if the account, which has the handle @HopeHicks45, really belongs to Hicks. But if you google &#x27;Hope Hicks twitter,&#x27; it\u2019s the very first result you get.&quot;<!-- \/react-text --><\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"295\"><!-- react-text: 296 -->Others, however, showed less caution, and also introduced Nazis. &quot;This is the NAZI behavior of the Left, and it&#x27;s very exposed today&#8230;As Hope Hicks has been deleted by Twitter with no reasoning behind the suspension,&quot; wrote the inimitable <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"http:\/\/www.puppetstringnews.com\/blog\/hope-hicks-twitter-deleted-by-twitter-after-becoming-white-house-comms-director\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"297\"><!-- react-text: 298 -->PuppetStringNews.com<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 299 -->.<!-- \/react-text --><\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"300\"><!-- react-text: 301 -->Another far-right conspiracy favorite, ZeroHedge.com, <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-09-13\/new-white-house-comms-director-suspended-twitter-one-day-after-appointment\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"302\"><!-- react-text: 303 -->went all in<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 304 -->: &quot;We suspect Twitter will be more than a little embarrassed by this &#8211; it appears Jack Dorsey&#x27;s sophisticated new anti-free-speech, censorship AI algos are really just mob-rule-driven &#8211; if enough people don&#x27;t like what you are saying (or may say), they will comply&#8230; We anxiously await President Trump&#x27;s response.&quot;<!-- \/react-text --><\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"309\"><!-- react-text: 310 -->They won&#x27;t have to wait much longer. The White House has confirmed to WIRED that @HopeHicks45 was never actually Hope Hicks account to begin with. In fact, that&#x27;s why it was suspended.<!-- \/react-text --><\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"311\"><!-- react-text: 312 -->Even Twitter founder Jack Dorsey weighed in <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jack\/status\/908016263863193600\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"313\"><!-- react-text: 314 -->in response<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 315 --> to one of Jack Posobiec&#x27;s tweets: &quot;False. We will verify Hope Hicks when she actually joins Twitter.&quot;<!-- \/react-text --><\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"316\"><!-- react-text: 317 -->To be fair, whoever did make the fake Hicks account did a decent job giving it the same tone as the <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/scheung45\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"318\"><!-- react-text: 319 -->official<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 320 --> <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PressSec\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"321\"><!-- react-text: 322 -->accounts<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 323 --> of <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Scavino45\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"324\"><!-- react-text: 325 -->other<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 326 --> Trump administration staffers. Though the original account is gone, you can still view it through the Internet Archive&#x27;s <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20170816081447\/https:\/\/twitter.com\/HopeHicks45\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"327\"><!-- react-text: 328 -->Wayback Machine<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 329 -->.<!-- \/react-text --><\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"333\"><!-- react-text: 334 -->Still, as was pointed out originally, this account was never verified. And it wasn&#x27;t suspended out of any sort of political censorship, but because it violated Twitter&#x27;s <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/support.twitter.com\/articles\/18366\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"335\"><!-- react-text: 336 -->impersonation policy<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 337 -->. All of which is to say, <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"http:\/\/thepoliticalinsider.com\/hope-hicks-twitter-suspend\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"338\"><!-- react-text: 339 -->everyone<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 340 --> <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/boards.4chan.org\/news\/thread\/177903\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"341\"><!-- react-text: 342 -->can<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 343 --> <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=hope%20hicks%20suspended&amp;src=typd\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"344\"><!-- react-text: 345 -->calm down<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 346 -->.<!-- \/react-text --><\/p>\n<p data-reactid=\"347\"><!-- react-text: 348 -->The weird part, of course, isn&#x27;t that Twitter suspended a fake account, but that the White House Communications Director doesn&#x27;t appear to have a Twitter account at all. Then again, <!-- \/react-text --><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\" target=\"_blank\" data-reactid=\"349\"><!-- react-text: 350 -->why bother<!-- \/react-text --><\/a><!-- react-text: 351 -->?<!-- \/react-text --><\/p>\n<p class=\"related-cne-video-component__dek\" data-reactid=\"361\">Many fake news peddlers didn\u2019t care if Trump won or lost the election. They only wanted to pocket money. But the consequences of what they did shook the world.
