The award recognizes an individual&#8217;s contribution to the information security profession in the area of public service.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-41178\" src=\"https:\/\/krebsonsecurity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/issalogo.png\" alt=\"issalogo\" width=\"316\" height=\"79\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s hugely gratifying to have received this award, mainly because of the company I now keep.<\/p>\n<p>Past ISSA President&#8217;s Award winners include former White House cybersecurity advisers <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Richard_A._Clarke\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Richard A. Clarke<\/a> (2003) and the late <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Howard_Schmidt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Howard Schmidt<\/a> (2016); <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defcon.org\/html\/defcon-25\/dc-25-index.html\" target=\"_blank\">DEF CON<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Black_Hat_Briefings\" target=\"_blank\">Black Hat<\/a> founder <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jeff_Moss_(hacker)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jeff Moss<\/a> (2011); <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hackingexposed.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Hacking Exposed<\/em><\/a> authors\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/georgekurtz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">George Kurtz<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/mcclurestuart\/\" target=\"_blank\">Stuart McClure<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/joelscambray\/\" target=\"_blank\">Joel Scambray<\/a> (2015); as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/liamomurchu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Liam O&#8217;Murchu<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/eric-chien-66b4b258\/\" target=\"_blank\">Eric Chien<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/nfalliere\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nicolas Falliere<\/a>, the team at <strong>Symantec<\/strong> credited for their groundbreaking analysis of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stuxnet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stuxnet Worm<\/a> (2012).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[Krebs&#8217;]\u00a0analysis of the bad actors and the dark web shines a light on the criminals and their methods that attack information security,&#8221; the ISSA said in explaining the award. &#8220;The information that he exposes to the light of day makes the jobs of white hats and blue teamers easier.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m very grateful to the ISSA for this award, and wish a hearty congratulations to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.issa.org\/?page=Awards\" target=\"_blank\">the other ISSA 2017 award recipients<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/krebsonsecurity.com\/2017\/10\/krebs-given-issas-presidents-award\/\" target=\"bwo\" >https:\/\/krebsonsecurity.com\/feed\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/krebsonsecurity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/issalogo.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Credit to Author: BrianKrebs| Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2017 12:35:57 +0000<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>KrebsOnSecurity was honored this month with the 2017 President&#8217;s Award for Public Service from the Information Systems Security Association, a nonprofit organization for cybersecurity professionals.
