Yes, that\u2019s a Thursday night dump. No, there weren\u2019t any pressing security fixes \u2013 at least, none that were advertised. I have no idea why Microsoft\u2019s pushing this offal out the Automatic Update chute.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to a scattering of Preview patches for Win7, 8.1 and Server 2002 \u2013 which are usually posted on the third \u201cWeek C\u201d Tuesday of the month \u2013 and the Surface Pro 3 firmware patch that was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/article\/3257225\/microsoft-windows\/intel-releases-more-meltdownspectre-firmware-fixes-microsoft-feints-an-sp3-patch.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">announced, but not delivered<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Wednesday, we have two new cumulative updates: one for Win10 Anniversary Update (version 1607) and one for Win10 Creators Update (version 1703). Susan Bradley has a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.askwoody.com\/2018\/patch-lady-posts-feb-22-2018-releases\/\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">full list with links<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the AskWoody site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two cumulative updates are:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It isn\u2019t at all clear why there\u2019s no fix for Win10 Fall Creators Update, version 1709. That\u2019s the Windows version that had <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/article\/3256218\/microsoft-windows\/buggy-win10-1709-cumulative-update-kb-4074588-redlining-bluescreening-borking-usb.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">all sorts of problems <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with this month\u2019s first round of cumulative updates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.askwoody.com\/forums\/topic\/second-round-of-cumulative-updates-for-win10-1607-and-1703-plus-previews-just-hit\/#post-169659\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The expectation is<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that a similar big cumulative update for 1709 is due any time now \u2013 possibly today or next Tuesday. I have no idea if it\u2019ll have security components, but it sure as shootin\u2019 better fix the USB problems widely reported with last week\u2019s cumulative update.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of last night, these patches hadn\u2019t apparently been sent out to WSUS servers, but they <em>were<\/em> available through Windows Update. In fact, if you have Automatic Update turned on, you may have received the patches overnight. Lucky you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As I\u2019ve said, it\u2019s still <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/article\/3254779\/microsoft-windows\/february-patches-bring-ominous-outlook-fixes-and-a-rebirth-of-kb-2952664.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">too early to install the February patches<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, unless you\u2019re very concerned about drive-by infections in Outlook 2007, 2010, 2013 or 2016. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And once again, for emphasis, there are no known Meltdown\/Spectre exploits in the wild.
