Sign out of iTunes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Open iTunes. From the menu bar at the top of the screen or at the top of the iTunes window, choose <strong>Account<\/strong>, select<strong> System Preferences<\/strong>, then choose <strong>Authorizations<\/strong>, and finally click<strong> Deauthorize This Computer<\/strong>. When prompted, provide your Apple ID and password, and then click <strong>Deauthorize<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Sign out of iCloud.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Click the Apple menu icon (), select<strong> System Preferences, <\/strong>choose<strong> iCloud,<\/strong> and then\u00a0click <strong>Sign Out<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Sign out of iMessage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Open the <strong>Messages<\/strong> app, click\u00a0<strong>Messages, <\/strong>choose <strong>Preferences<\/strong>, and then click <strong>Accounts<\/strong>. Select your iMessage account, and then click <strong>Sign Out<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Disconnect any paired Bluetooth Devices (if necessary).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Click the Apple menu icon (), select<strong> System Preferences, <\/strong>and then click\u00a0<strong>Bluetooth<\/strong>. Hover the mouse pointer over the device that you\u00a0want to disconnect, and then click the remove (x) button\u00a0next to its name. When asked to confirm your choice, click <strong>Remove<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Restore Your Mac to the Factory Settings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Finally, you must erase the hard drive and reinstall Mac OS X by following the steps below.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"20px\"><\/td>\n<td>\n<ol>\n<li>Click the Apple menu icon () and then select <strong>Restart<\/strong>. As the Mac restarts, hold down the <strong>Command and R<\/strong> keys until the Mac OS X <strong>Utilities<\/strong> window appears.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Disk Utility<\/strong>, and then click <strong>Continue<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select your startup disk on the left side of the screen, and then click <strong>Erase<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>Format<\/strong> pop-up menu, choose <strong>Mac OS Extended<\/strong>, provide a name, and then click <strong>Erase<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>After erasing the disk, choose <strong>Disk Utility<\/strong>, and then select <strong>Quit Disk Utility<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/index?page=link&amp;apdid=mchlp1599&amp;viewlocale=en_US&amp;bookId=PL124\">Reinstall macOS<\/a><\/strong>, click <strong>Continue<\/strong>, and then follow the instructions that appear.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td height=\"10px\"><\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>After completing these steps, your Mac will restart and show the setup assistant as if you just got it fresh out of the box from the store. If you plan to keep your Mac, just follow the setup assistant\u2019s instructions. If you plan to sell or give it away, press <strong>Command + Q<\/strong> to quit the setup assistant, and then click <strong>Shut Down<\/strong>.
