We view this as an important step to bring the benefits of immersion cooling to the mainstream market that is fully compatible with standard architectures. Immersion cooling promises lower operating costs, higher efficiencies, a smaller footprint, and fan-less operation. We see no other available technology that can have such a dramatic impact on energy efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>We are unveiling this first-of-its-kind solution at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/conferences\/na\/infrastructure-operations-cloud-us?_sm_au_=iVVD8mmNBM8m2mNV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gartner IT Infrastructure, Operations &amp; Cloud Strategies Conference<\/a> in Las Vegas. However, what happens in Vegas won\u2019t stay in Vegas this time (sorry \u2013 couldn\u2019t resist) because we believe this is a solution the industry has been waiting for and we hope the news will spread.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-62723\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.se.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/998_20697908_GMA_Resize_640X360.jpg\" alt=\"man in a data center\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.se.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/998_20697908_GMA_Resize_640X360.jpg 640w, https:\/\/blog.se.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/998_20697908_GMA_Resize_640X360-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/>A little background: In October at Innovation Summit in Barcelona, Schneider Electric announced that we entered a strategic partnership with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iceotope.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Iceotope<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avnet.com\/wps\/portal\/us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Avnet<\/a> to collaborate on innovative liquid cooling solutions. This new solution we just announced is an important next (but not last!) step in our partnership. It combines a high-powered GPU server with Iceotope\u2019s liquid cooling technology to increase energy efficiency. Avnet integrates the liquid-cooled server with Schneider Electric\u2019s NetShelter liquid-cooled enclosure system for simple deployment into data centers or edge computing environments.<\/p>\n<h2>Liquid Cooling: A Technology to Watch<\/h2>\n<p>While liquid cooling has been around for a long time, we believe that the latest chips with much higher Thermal Design Power (TDP) are creating unique challenges for air cooling. Enter liquid cooling, which is ideal for applications such as big data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine-learning algorithm training development, which tend to utilize these higher TDP chips.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent report published by Gartner*, liquid cooling was identified as a technology to watch. Analyst Henrique Cecci advised data center operators to \u201cmaximize cooling energy efficiencies by employing modern liquid cooling solutions.\u201d Liquid cooling offers greater efficiency, lower operating costs, smaller footprint, increased reliability, and nearly silent operation despite the high-power density of the GPUs.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s development marks a significant step toward industrializing chassis-based immersion solutions. These solutions uniquely offer the efficiency and effectiveness of tank-based solutions while providing the compatibility and serviceability of more traditional, \u2018direct-to-chip\u2019 liquid-cooling designs.<\/p>\n<p>And the new solution is EcoStruxure<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/12.0.0-1\/72x72\/2122.png\" alt=\"\u2122\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em; max-height: 1em;\" \/> Ready, so it\u2019s available with next-generation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.se.com\/ww\/en\/work\/solutions\/for-business\/data-centers-and-networks\/cloud-based-dcim-software-dmaas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">data center management<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ecostruxureit.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EcoStruxure IT Expert<\/a>, and our digital service <a href=\"https:\/\/ecostruxureit.com\/ecostruxure-asset-advisor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EcoStruxure Asset Advisor<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>More to Come on the Liquid Cooling Front<\/h2>\n<p>By collaborating with Avnet and Iceotope, we plan to expand the offer as demand grows and hope to welcome other server OEMs into the partnership.
