It comes from Japan, is shaped like an eighth note, and has a mouth on the bottom that you open and close so that it appears to &#8220;sing.&#8221; One can be had on Amazon for around $35, and there also appears to be some sort of &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=g_1WvxYBGTk\" target=\"_blank\">jumbo<\/a>&#8221; version out there, though I&#8217;m not sure where you can get that guy. <\/p>\n<p> Until today, I was only vaguely aware of the odd music-making device, but then I learned about the thriving, overwhelmingly talented Otamatone subculture on YouTube. Give me a hit song, I will give you the Otamatone version performed exquisitely by one of the internet&#8217;s most masterful players.<\/p>\n<p> Smash Mouth&#8217;s &#8220;All Star&#8221;? I got you:<\/p>\n<div data-iframely-id=\"VfVxymH\" class=\"article__embed article__embed--iframely\">\n<div style=\"left: 0; width: 100%; height: 0; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.2493%;\" data-iframely-smart-iframe=\"true\"><iframe  src= width=\"100%\" height=\"420\" frameborder=\"0\" ><\/iframe> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p> Bon Jovi&#8217;s &#8220;Livin&#8217; On A Prayer?&#8221; Yah:<\/p>\n<div data-iframely-id=\"oUO7O6q\" class=\"article__embed article__embed--iframely\">\n<div style=\"left: 0; width: 100%; height: 0; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.2493%;\" data-iframely-smart-iframe=\"true\"><iframe  src= width=\"100%\" height=\"420\" frameborder=\"0\" ><\/iframe> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p> I particularly want to draw your attention to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/nelsontyc\/videos\" target=\"_blank\">this man<\/a>, Nelson Tan Yan Cong, a Singaporean fellow who I would argue is one of the best Otamatone players out there. He often appears to do his thing in some sort of sound-proof studio, indicating he is a true professional. <\/p>\n<p> You will be blown away by his cover of Whitney Houston&#8217;s &#8220;I Will Always Love You&#8221;: <\/p>\n<div data-iframely-id=\"901zHA6\" class=\"article__embed article__embed--iframely\">\n<div style=\"left: 0; width: 100%; height: 0; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.2493%;\" data-iframely-smart-iframe=\"true\"><iframe  src= width=\"100%\" height=\"420\" frameborder=\"0\" ><\/iframe> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p> He also did &#8220;I Dreamed A Dream&#8221; from <i> Les Miserables<\/i>:<\/p>\n<div data-iframely-id=\"zlhooF8\" class=\"article__embed article__embed--iframely\">\n<div style=\"left: 0; width: 100%; height: 0; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.2493%;\" data-iframely-smart-iframe=\"true\"><iframe  src= width=\"100%\" height=\"420\" frameborder=\"0\" ><\/iframe> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p> One commenter replied to that video &#8220;&#8230;Oh&#8230;my&#8230;I&#8217;m crying\u2026&#8221; which, honestly, I understand.
