Securing Your Digital Transformation

On September 5-7, Fortinet will be hosting the 2017 361° Security Forum in Vienna, Austria. Hundreds of Fortinet partners and customers from across EMEA and SAARC will be attending this three-day conference to discuss the impact that the transition to a digital economy and new digital business models are having on organizations around the world.

Digital transformation is driving sweeping changes to not only how businesses compete for customers, but to fundamental ways that organizations operate. Data is the new currency in this economy, and networks, workflows, and even business processes are being affected. To succeed, networks have had to adapt to include new ecosystems, such as virtualization, IoT, and the cloud, and organizations now need to support a wide array of new applications, devices, and platforms.

One of the biggest challenges these organizations face is how to secure their customized and highly elastic environments. Traditional security solutions tend to be static and isolated, which means they no longer provide the visibility and control that their new borderless network environments require. Success requires a security strategy that can automatically adapt to shifting network environments, span a variety of ecosystems – from IoT to the cloud, share intelligence to proactively identify threats, and automatically coordinate an effective response at digital speeds.

The security paradigm for today’s digital businesses needs to be built on two fundamental pillars: security by default and security by design.

Security by Default

When building an adaptive and elastic digital network, especially one that is both highly customized and highly customizable, it is critical that security be engineered into the infrastructure from the start. This requires asking a number of critical questions, such as, “What business objectives does this network need to meet now and in the future?” and “What sort of threats is this network going to attract?” Is your network especially vulnerable to denial of service attacks or ransomware?  Will you be managing a lot of personal information? What resources (data and devices) can be accessed, and by what (applications, IoT devices) and by whom (business groups, customers)?

The next step is to engineer as many of those challenges out of your network by default. Devices and services in your network can play one of two roles. They can sit there and be a target, or they can contribute to the health of your network.

Security by default should include things like hardening access points and networking gear. Establishing comprehensive data backups stored off network to mitigate the effects of ransomware. Building in redundancy in order to fend off denial of service attacks. Or perhaps most importantly, establishing intentional network segmentation and controls in order to quickly identify, isolate, and respond to threats that may appear deep inside your network. Fortinet has solutions designed to help with all of these.

Security by Design

Once security has been engineered into the functions and services of your network, it is critical to design a comprehensive and holistic security strategy. Isolated security devices monitoring a single access point on the network perimeter are no longer enough. Not only are today’s networks elastic and dynamic, cyberthreats are also increasingly intelligent and evasive.

To stay ahead of cybercriminals, security needs to span across your network, dynamically adapt to systemic changes and demands, collect and correlate threat intelligence, and automatically coordinate a comprehensive response to threats at digital speeds. Enabling this next generation of security capabilities is at heart of the Fortinet Security Fabric vision.

The 2017 edition of Fortinet’s 361° Security Forum will look at the benefits as well as the potential issues facing a successful digital transformation effort. Topics will include: securing the hybrid enterprise, addressing data protection issues, such as the EU’s upcoming General Data Protection Regulation with security technology, tactics and tools for securing the cloud and IoT, securing the virtual edge, and dozens more. We will also break down some of the biggest attacks from the past several months, and how explore effective threat intelligence can play a critical role in keeping your organization safe. And finally, we will take a look at Fortinet’s key product developments that support the enterprise’s digital transformation journey.

This year’s forum is being held at the Hilton Vienna Park congress, in the center of Vienna, Austria on the 5th-7th of September, where attendees will engage in two full days of information exchange, conversation, and meetings with peers to ensure a successful digital transformation.

Attendance to the Fortinet 361° Security Forum is by personal invitation only.
