There was a time when I was content to let my bank authenticate me over the phone by asking for some personal identifiers (SSN/DOB) that are broadly for sale in the cybercrime underground. At some point, however, I decided this wasn’t acceptable for institutions that held significant chunks of our money, and I began taking our business away from those that wouldn’t let me add a simple verbal passphrase that needed to be uttered before any account details could be discussed over the phone.

The T2 2017 conference took place on October 26 and 27, 2017 at the Radisson Blu seaside hotel in Helsinki, Finland. As in every edition, a CTF (Capture The Flag) competition is organized prior the conference, with the winner receiving a free ticket. This year, a private bug bounty was held by LähiTapiola, a well-known insurance company in Finland, under the supervision of T2 organizers through the HackerOne platform. Microsoft yanks buggy Windows patches KB 4052233, 4052234, 4052235

As I reported last week, Microsoft released a handful of buggy patches designed to fix the “Unexpected error from external database driver” bug introduced by all of the October Windows security patches. As noted then, the bug fixes have bugs themselves, and the cure is worse than the disease.

Now comes word that Microsoft has not only yanked the bad patches; it’s also deleted the KB articles associated with the patches.

Specifically, all of these KB articles report that the page does not exist:
