Trend Micro has been protecting governments, businesses and consumers from cyber-threats for more than 28 years. Right from the start, our founders were keen to emphasize the important role played by corporations in society as a whole. To that end, we’ve always been an active participant in charitable projects, and employees are always encouraged to do what they can.

But as an organization, we’ve also been about much more than that. To be the best we can possibly be, we need staff to feel empowered, valued and supported in everything they do. We’re committed to  offering a range of fantastic benefits not  necessarily found at other companies.

So it was great news to hear that Trend Micro Canada has been recognized as one of the National Capital Region’s Top Employers for 2018 — the second year in a row we’ve been placed on this prestigious list.

“The National Capital Region is widely recognized as a hub for attracting the best and the brightest,” says Richard Yerema, Managing Editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project, which manages the competition. “It has a strong base of technology companies and public sector employers – while offering broad opportunities for those interested in policy development and social change.”

Recognizing excellence

First published in 2006, the National Capital Region’s Top Employers is a special listing designed to recognize organizations in the Ottawa-Gatineau metropolitan area that lead their industries in being outstanding places to work. The annual competition is open to all employers, regardless of size and sector, and uses the same criteria for judging as the national equivalent: Canada’s Top 100 Employers.

These are: Physical Workplace; Work Atmosphere & Social; Health, Financial & Family Benefits; Vacation & Time Off; Employee Communications; Performance Management; Training & Skills Development; and Community Involvement. So you see, it’s not just a ranking on who offers the best salaries or the most generous annual leave — it’s really an opportunity to spot those organizations that offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs for their employees.

A winning employer

At Trend Micro we view each employee as a unique asset. If we want to excel as an organization we have to treat these assets with the respect they deserve to help them thrive, engage and grow. Whether they’re a member of the sales team or a forward-threat researcher, the Trend Micro approach is the same: to provide the best amenities and facilities possible, and benefits and wellness programs designed with physical and mental well-being in mind.

Here are some of the things that are setting Trend Micro apart:

  • Every Trend Micro Canada employee gets three weeks of vacation to start, moving to four weeks after only three years on the job
  • The company offers flexible work hours, telecommuting and reduced summer hours to help employees balance work and personal lives
  • Support for new mothers, fathers or adoptive parents with parental leave top-up payments of up to 100% of salary for up to eight weeks, plus an adoption subsidy of up to $10,000
  • Paid time off for employees to volunteer in charitable projects
  • Trend Micro pays up to 100% of health plan premiums
  • Referral bonuses of up to $2000 for employees

We’re delighted to have been recognized again as one of the top employer’s in the Canadian capital, but we know there’s always room for improvement. That’s why we’ll continued to look for ways to make Trend Micro one of the best places to work, wherever your’re based in the world.
